Fashion Class Tools for Castro Valley High School Students

Submitted by Jennifer Parker of Castro Valley High School ( Itemized Budget )

The digital cameras will be used to document student work and to help students build digital portfolios.  They will also assist with students in the fashion class as well as those in the fashion club that meets during lunch and after school to design and sew garments. All of these tools will help assist students with potential career exploration and planning.

The sewing machines, scissors, rotary cutters, seam rippers will be helpful in giving students some hands on experience with the proper tools to make clothes and art with fabric.

The screen printing exposure unit will allow students to create silkscreens to print on fabric and clothing. This will benefit students in allowing opportunities for "buy in" to the curriculum and a sense of pride when they make and wear their own designs. They will also gain a skill they can use for the rest of their lives.  These skills will also help them if they choose to pursue a career in the fashion industry. Our students are showing a lot of interest in this line of work and there is very little offered to prepare them for careers in fashion.

The students in my Fashion Illustration class will benefit the most from these tools although they will be available to all students during lunch and some time after school. All the tools are those that will continue to be used each year and not consumable.
