Lego Architecture sets for Castro Valley 4th & 5th Graders
Submitted by Melissa Rusk of Jensen Ranch Elementary ( Itemized Budget )
The Lego sets will be used in 4th and 5th grade lessons each year to provide differentiated instruction (reinforcement and enrichment), especially with the new Common Core math standards that focus on measurement, geometry, and number operations.
Students will become architects by participating in lessons incorporating STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) skills and knowledge as they design and build model houses, and also, if time permits, an ideal community neighborhood or city.
Through this architectural unit, students will master standards covered, deepen their understanding of concepts, and be inspired by science, technology, engineering, and math.
"All the students in my combination (4/5) classroom of 30 will benefit this year. The materials will be available to the other four upper grade (4th and 5th) classrooms at Jensen Ranch as needed."
